September is Life Insurance Awareness Month

Don't know why we need a special month in which to be aware of Life Insurance but, like it or not, we have one...and it is right now.

Do you think anyone over the age of 18 out there is not aware of Life Insurance? Let me tell you that I can empty a room full of 25 to 40 year olds in about thirty seconds by walking in and announcing that I am a Life Insurance Broker and am there to speak to each  of them. Why is that?  Probably, because it is natural avoid coming to grips with one's mortality. We get caught up in avoiding an unpleasant subject, but that mindset is all wrong.

If you have a life's partner, children, business obligations, employees looking to you for leadership...and their paycheck, those are the ones most affected by the uncertainty of your death. Life Insurance is for the living, the ones left holding the bag when your short trip on the interstate turns deadly.

Next slow rainy afternoon, pull out a yellow pad and sharp pencil, then list your cash on hand, investments, and other things that can be easily turned into immediate dollars. Open your family or company check book and list all the recurring monthly bills. Now, take yourself and your contribution to income out of the mix.  (If you are the business owner, factor in the dollar impact your sudden departure will have on your company and employees.)

If your spouse also brings income to the family table, will your family be able to maintain their present standard of living after you make that sudden one-way trip out of this world? If it's your spouse who kisses you good bye in the morning but never returns home again, can you and the kids make up for his or her lost income?

One way or the other, life goes on...and it goes much smoother when there is sufficient cash on hand to pay the bills. Owning sufficient life insurance can guarantee just that. Think about it.
